In 2002, Reuben and his wife Angela arrived back in Australia after a short stint living in London and immediately knew they wanted to open a sophisticated, high-end salon in Sydney. “We decided on Chatswood Chase as we loved the buzz of the Centre,” says Reuben as he remembers those early days. “We took over the salon three days after the birth of our first child!”. 22 years later, Reuben is still at the helm of the salon alongside his wife Angela and his kids, who help out on the weekends. “To be honest, we consider all of our team members as family as well. A lot of our core team members have been a part of the Luxe team for up to 20 years.”

Reflecting on the last two decades, Reuben says the business’ backbone is respect. “Tensions can sometimes arise when you're working with family and friends, however, we always finish the day thanking each other”. Of course, it hasn’t always been easy, with challenges including Covid and renovations forcing the salon to shut. “The salon’s ability to adapt to change and display resilience through troubling times has always been a hallmark of our story. During Covid, we pivoted our business when we were forced to close by offering at-home colour packages and growing our e-commerce site.” But he’s also adamant that the Luxe salon community has played a major role in the business’s longevity. “To all existing clients of Luxe, we want to say thank you – for your ongoing loyalty and patronage to getting us to the business that we are today.” 

During the renovations over the next 18 months, Luxe will continue to trade in their temporary space. “We are using this time to upskill and develop our team, while acquiring new talent, both locally and internationally”. Upon completion of the Chatswood Chase development, the salon will relocate permanently to a new space at the Archer Street entrance of the centre. “Our new space will be state of the art, encapsulating the latest technologies of hairdressing and international salon design. We are continually striving to position ourselves as one of the strongest Sydney salons and feel the development of the Chase and attraction of new retailers and vendors will only strengthen this further,” says Reuben.
